Berkshire Hathaway Annual Shareholders Meeting, Saturday May 4 2013
Many of you have asked for my thoughts from the Berkshire Hathaway (BRK) AGM which I attended on May 4th with fellow Aussies Rob Millner (Chairman of Soul Patts, Brickworks, New Hope, BKI and Milton) and Tom Millner (CEO of BKI).
In a word … Amazing …. very surreal and a little over 2 weeks later, still feeling very privileged and inspired for the whole experience.
Described as ‘Woodstock for Capitalists’, the weekend is a mix of being at a Super Bowl, a rock concert, a Hollywood red carpet event, a comedy show combined with Boxing Day sales frenzy and Sydney Olympic type friendliness.
Despite these many fantastic side shows, the real event is the chance to hear from the world’s best investors (and philosophers too for mine) in both Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger for nearly 6 hours … quite simply a very special experience.
Hearing and seeing both of these gentlemen in the flesh has reinforced all my previously held views as to their incredible intelligence, their humility, their openness and honesty, their wisdom, their unbridled love, passion and conviction for what they do, and their very sharp wit.
A 6am effort by Tom to secure both Rob and I seats was well rewarded, with Tom receiving a greeting and handshake with Warren in the morning amongst the melee as well as a chance encounter for the 3 of us with Charlie Munger after the close of proceedings.
